Flist, you have failed me! Why did no one inform me that The Invisible Man was so freaking fantastic?? I just marathoned both seasons in the space of-- four days? five?-- and I am IN LOVE.

The CGI's a little 2000, and there's one or two eps here and there that are just wacky (evil acupuncturists, anyone?), but mostly it's a solid show and I love the characters and I don't want it to be overrrrrrr~, *wail*

It's weird-- I almost don't want to read fanfic for it, because the characters are so very *present* in my head from having watched it in such a short span of time, and I don't want to dilute that with whatever fanon has sprung up in the last seven years, y'know? Is that strange?

(Although I do kind of want to read the one where Darien, Jake Foley and Chuck Bartowski all get tossed in the same cell. That'd be hilarious.)

Me? Posting? I know, right? But I've got massive amounts of free time on my hands these days. School is now officially out, I no longer have a job (the grant ended, sigh), and campus has this lovely media resource center that has just about every movie you could ever want, so I've been spending a lot of time catching up on entertainment.

And then today I caught a bus to the movie theater in the mall and saw both Up and Night at the Museum 2. (Don't worry, no spoilers.)

Up: I will not lie, I spent about a third of this movie sobbing into my hankie. Oh my God, you guys, it is fantastic. You all need to run out and go see it this very instant. (Of course, it's Pixar; were you expecting anything less??)

Night at the Museum 2: I think my favorite thing about these movies (or perhaps Ben Stiller movies in general) is their complete inability to take anything seriously. Drama? Pssh. Let's have monkeys running around instead.

Also while at the mall, I picked up the DVD of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (singing commentary, yay!) and Sarah Rees Brennan's new book, The Demon Lexicon-- currently 65 pages in, and so far it's highly enjoyable. Does remind me rather a lot of Rob Thurman's series, though. And the quote by Scott Westerfield on the cover-- "full of shimmery marvels and bountiful thunder" (???)-- makes absolutely no sense.

So, that's my life lately. And now 'tis time to go off and watch another movie, I think.

First off, sorry about the radio silence as of late; I've been in a kind of anti-social mood, due in no small part to the omnipresence of the election. Politics (or at least the poisonous rhetoric that surrounds politics) has this tendency to piss me off unreasonably, so I try to avoid it as much as possible.

That said! Don't expect there to be much going on around here for the next month or so, either, because it's that time of the year again: NaNoWriMo! Like last year, I will be posting most everything NaNo related under friendslock* over at alessandriana, so if you want your daily dose of me, you'll have to get it there. This year the theme is superheroes!** Should be fun.






*I friend everyone who friends me; it's just locked so that the novel doesn't escape into the wilds of the internet. Not that anyone would want to steal it, but...

**It will also be my first attempt to write any sort of romance, so if anyone has tips they'd like to share? That would be awesome.

Okay, you guys.

You all need to go out, RIGHT NOW, and read Cory Doctorow's new book Little Brother.

And I do mean now.

Why?

Because it's good. It's really really good. It's about freedom, and the right to privacy, and what happens when the need for the illusion of safety triumphs over the rights of the individual citizen. It's a good read, it's scary-plausible, and it'll make you want to go out and do awesome tech-y things and participate in flash-mobs and maybe even get excited to vote.

It really is just that awesome.

Plus? You can even read it online for free here; it's available under a Creative Commons license, like all of Cory's other work. That's where I just finished reading it; I plan to go out tomorrow and buy the hardcover. And possibly donate another copy to a library donated.

So go. Read. And then share it with everyone you know.
